[ We find Seylin in a room with a shimmering portal in front of her, showing a hallway somewhere else. Something about it makes her adventurer sense tingle pleasantly. ] [ She's here exploring. Why not explore? ] [ (Mini)Session Start! ] * Seylin gazes into the portal. "Hmmm. I guess I should go back and tell everybody else about this." * Seylin taps her chin with one finger as she continues gazing. It's very cute. "But... it *is* my job to look ahead for danger." One little, tiny peek can't hurt, right? I'm sneaky! I shouldn't have any problems. Unless the portal closes after me. That'd be bad. * Seylin considers things for a second, then snaps her fingers. "I know! I'll toss something through and see what happens." * Seylin rummages through her haversack, pulls out a piece of chalk, examines it for a moment, then winds up and flings it through the portal. * Seylin waits a few minutes to see if anything happens. [ The chalk goes through, and lands soundlessly on the other side of the portal, failing to set off any traps that might be there. The Portal does not close. ] * Seylin peers through. She can still see the chalk, right? [ The chalk is still there, although slightly distorted. ] * Seylin ponders for a few minutes, then looks around the room. Is there anything near the portal that she could tie a rope to? [ Other than a torch bracket, no. ] * Seylin eyes the bracket. If something were to pull on her, would it hold? [ You can't tell. You're not sure how it's attached to or built into the wall, and you're not sure if that's a good sign or not. ] * Seylin gazes into the portal again. "I shouldn't. Really, I shouldn't. I don't know where it goes, and I don't know if I can get back, and if I do go and something happens to me, everyone will be mad, and I don't want that to happen." But... what if there's something on the other side that I'd be the best one to deal with it? * Seylin keeps gazing into the portal, common sense fighting with curiosity. Finally, curiosity wins. "One little peek. That's all. Then I'll come right back and tell everybody else." * Seylin nods to emphasize the fact, draws her halberd, and carefully steps through. [ Spot check. Lookin' fer traps! ] [ Seylin sees a trap! A pressure-plate on the floor, but it's so well-made she can't see how she could get into it to disarm it. She just doesn't know enough about traps. ] [ However, the hallway she finds herself in is one hundered feet high and fifty wide. She has plenty of room to just fly over the trap. ] * Seylin takes a look back at the portal to make sure it's still there. [ The portal is still there, and if the shimmering view of the other side is any indication, it's still active. ] * Seylin looks at the pressure plate, makes a note to register for Trap Disarming next semester, and flies over it. [ The hallway has numerous small doors on the right-hand side, but only one, very large exit straight ahead. The cavernous hallway seems to empty into a large cavern. ] * Seylin goes straight ahead. [ Seylin flies swiftly along, and into the cavern! It's really big, and there are spots where the remains of ancient stalagmites and stalactites are visible. And to the right is a large passage leading to something gleaming. Seylin could swear it's a huge pile of gold. ] * Seylin hmms softly and heads in that direction. She's not your stereotypical treasure!-and-nothing-else rogue, but this *does* look intriguing. [ As Seylin gets nearer, she finds a man in red walking out of the treasure room towards her. "Well, well. Look who wandered into my home. Hello, Seylin." ] * Seylin stops in mid-air and hovers rather confusedly. "Uh. Hi?" [ "Please, come down, have a chat." The man has a curious accent, like he isn't used to speaking Common. "I should really kill you for breaking into my home, but I don't feel like it just now." ] * Seylin descends slightly, though she doesn't land yet. "Do I know you?" [ "Of course not! We've never met, silly girl." He says it almost affectionately. On closer inspection, his face is old and wrinkled, and one side is horribly scarred, giving the impression of a permanent sneer. The other side of his face is smiling, however. ] Then how do you know my name? [ "Scrying. I have been following your group's escapades for a while, now. Most of it is terribly dull, but it has it's moments." ] * Seylin lands. "Oh." * Seylin tries not to stare at his scarring. [ "I keep the scars as mementos of my adventuring youth," the man says, watching Seylin's eyes. "I have similar scars all over my body." ] * Seylin quickly looks away. "I'm sorry. That was rude of me." [ "Don't worry about being rude, girl. I'm not in a mood to kill people over such things just now, so it isn' really a problem, is it?" ] [ The old man chuckles at some private joke after that. ] Well, it's always good to be polite, especially when you're in someone's house uninvited. That was rude of me, too. So, um... what did you want to talk about? [ "Well, it's more that I want to talk to all of you. Although you can get some special attention, I suppose. You're such a charming girl, after all. There's a reason you have a... 'fan club'." He laughs at this, too. ] [ "So, why did you leave your troupe and go exploring on your own? It's awful dangerous in Rilyen's old home, after all." ] * Seylin looks confused at the mention of the fan club, then tries to look nonchalant. "Well, if you've been following us, then you know I'm the scout. It's what I do. I'm not the best fighter and I'm definitely not a mage, but this is one way that I can keep my friends safe." [ "Ah, how sweet, thinking about your fellow adventurers like that. But really, you shouldn't go off on your own. You never know what you could run into in the middle of a ...'dungeon'." ] I... realize that now, yes. * Seylin tries not to look *too* nervous. [ "And you still haven't figured it out, have you? Oh well. Your friends are following your trail, and they should be here soon. But I think it will be more interesting if you're not there to greet them when they come through." ] * Seylin twitches a wing. "Would it help if I said I was sorry?" [ "Not really. I'm not offended at your entry into my home, remember? I just want to build some suspense for them. They're worried about you, after all. They're cleverly thinking about what things could be lurking down here." ] I think they've got all the suspense they need, really. And I promise I'll never break into anyone's house again! * Seylin takes off for the exit! [ The man says something arcane, and Seylin feels her wings begin to seize up! (Will save versus spell, Seylin.) ] [ Seylin keeps flying, tho! ] * Seylin strains a little and keeps heading for the portal. [ Seylin flies! Right into an invisible wall. ] [ She hits head-first, and is immediatley knocked unconscious by the force of the impact. ]
